A very warm welcome to the Hook Community Primary School website. Hook is a confident and creative community school, where students and staff work exceptionally well together.  ​​Small rural schools are unique in that they offer children a safe, nurturing environment to grow and learn. Children develop a  tremendous sense of belonging and identity at Hook and this is very special. 

​

Hook School has a wonderful history and the school really is at the heart of the community. The school was established almost one hundred and fifty years ago. The building has been extended on numerous occasions (most recently in 1997) to create the character rich environment that pupils experience today.  We have a close relationship with the community club and use the large hall for our famous Christmas concerts. Our proximity to the Cleddau Estuary allows us to spend many summer days exploring wild meadows, catching invertebrates and learning more about the rich history of our local area.

We are particularly proud of our curriculum and academic achievements. Our rigorous curriculum provides pupils with engaging and authentic experiences.  A key word to life at Hook is ‘purpose’. We believe that children need to understand what they are learning, why they need to know it and to have the opportunity to apply their learning in meaningful ways. Our curriculum is designed around a termly essential question. Examples include, ‘What happened to our oceans?’ and ‘Why is Hook nicknamed the Black Diamond village?’

Our playgroup 'Pysgodyn Bach' allows us to offer wrap around care when pupils begin part time nursery. Many parents find this very supportive and it also benefits pupils greatly.
